NBA All-Star Game Draws Escorts To The Region

The idea that a sports event draws 50,000 to 100,000 escorts to the host city is absurd.  It’s just the type of info that ‘nonprofit groups’ like to peddle.  While big events mean more people, which means more money, and pro escorts will follow, those numbers are just fantasy.  Read more at NBCDFW.com

Prostitutes Look to Score at All-Star Game: Cops
Dallas police say areas hosting big sports events see influx of prostitutes

North Texas is expecting thousands of visitors for the NBA All-Star Weekend, but Dallas police are also making plans to deal with some unwelcome visitors — prostitutes.

“We have been told from other cities that there is going to be an increase in prostitutes,” Lt. Christina Smith said.

A nonprofit group in Phoenix estimates that between 50,000 and 100,000 prostitutes flooded its city during Super Bowl XLII last year. Dallas police said they don’t know what to expect from the All-Star Game.

“I think it’s safe to say we will see some girls that are the traditional street prostitute, and fair to say, we can expect more of the escort-service type of girls,” Smith said.

The department is taking a page from the playbooks of other cities that have hosted high-profile sporting events, such as the NBA All-Star Game.

To prepare, the vice unit is adjusting officers’ schedules and hours so that all hands are on deck next week. Dallas police said they will focus on prostitution hotspots, such as Harry Hines Boulevard, as well as high-end hotels.

Tampa Prostitutes May Face Strong Defense From Police

super-bowl-tampaTampa police officers say the Super Bowl draws a couple of unwelcomed guests – prostitutes and the men who solicit them.

“The sun rises in the east and hookers come to town for the Super Bowl,” says Captain Bret Bartlett with the Tampa Police Department.

To combat the problem, Tampa police officers are playing offense this week. The play call is a prostitution reverse sting. On this first day of the operation, officers tackle the men receiving the services and make 13 arrests in a few hours.

Police officers warn solicitation can lead to other crimes. “Also, possibly, whoever is running these girls [can] come in your room [and] rob you. We’ll take your report that you’ve been robbed but not feel your pain, because you walked into this one, walked into the left hook. The message to you is don’t do it or be ready for the consequences. You’ll get caught,” says Bartlett.

Officers say prostitutes are blitzing the market by using the internet. Many are promoting themselves on Craigslist. “These events draw large numbers of ladies into town. We know because we see gigantic a uptake in internet activity. The ladies post they’re coming into town,” says Bartlett.

Tampa police say they will look harder in areas commonly known for prostitution such as Dale Mabry Highway, Nebraska Avenue and Drew Park. They will also frequent massage parlors and Asian spas.

Bartlett says if you get caught the penalty is several hundred dollars, a missed Super Bowl game and possibly up to a year in jail. He does say, though, that the high priced call girls will be harder to catch.
