Man’s killers ‘used prostitution lure’
By Victoria Allen
A BUSINESSMAN was murdered after he visited a known red-light district and left there with a female companion, a court heard yesterday.
Alan Bennett, 56, was on a night out with work colleagues before he headed to the streets of Aberdeen’s harbour, an area that is frequented by prostitutes.
Almost three hours later, a reveller in a different part of the city centre found Mr Bennett’s body. He had been stabbed to death.
Paul Balgowan and Julie Carroll, both 25, are accused of luring him to his death by promising him sex.
On the first day of their trial at the High Court in Aberdeen the jury was shown CCTV footage of Mr Bennett at Regent Quay on the night he died.
Detective Constable Andrew Barclay of Grampian Police told the court: “Regent Quay is known as a red-light district. Further along is a former Grampian Police tolerance zone for prostitution, and prostitutes meet in that area.”
The footage showed Mr Bennett heading to the harbour at at about 1:35am on 30 May last year and leaving with a woman thought to be Carroll.
Following just 30 seconds behind them were two figures, one of which was said to be Carroll’s partner, Balgowan. It is not clear if Mr Bennett knew he was being followed, but DC Barclay said Carroll kept looking back over her shoulder.
The pair are accused of persuading the victim to go with Carroll, then pulling a knife on him.
It is claimed he was forced to hand over his wallet and then repeatedly punched and stabbed in the head and body.
Both deny the charges.

A businessman in town for a convention decides to make his night a little more memorable, and winds up on the business end of a mickey and short his money & valuables. We at Insider Escort Secrets tend to think this kind of stuff is overstated, but there’s no doubt that the legendary ‘trick roll’ is real.

More than $2 million is likely be stolen in ’09 in ‘trick rolls’ in which a prostitute robs a client
By Abigail Goldman
People in the company of Clark County prostitutes collectively reported having $1.4 million in cash and goods stolen from them during the first nine months of this year — dupes of a larceny genre better known to police as the “trick roll.”
By year’s end, it’s estimated the total reported losses will exceed $2 million — almost double last year’s total, and probably a fraction of the real amount.
How many people file police reports, after all, when their prostitutes disappoint?
Enough, at least, for Metro vice detectives to determine the problem is getting worse, and assign two detectives to trick roll investigations exclusively. They’ve gotten roughly one case every day this year. In 2007 it was more like one a week.
That increase could have something to do with the economy. Fewer tourists with less money means supply exceeds demand. Prices drop and competition ratchets up for prostitutes, many of whom police say must meet nightly quotas set by pimps. Metro Sgt. Donald Hoier, though, says the problem picked up before the economy fell, simply because Clark County was saturated with sex workers and outlets for illicit entertainment.
When everybody scrambles for the same pool of money, bad seeds take short cuts.
Consider the reported losses Hoier reads from a list of cases: $10,000 in cash, casino chips and a laptop; $30,000 in cash and chips; $20,000 Rolex; $6,000 Rolex; $5,000 cash; and — perhaps the most interesting, a case Hoier can only hint at — $175,000 in casino chips.
These are preposterous amounts, which is probably why they were reported in the first place.
Sometimes these are crimes of opportunity. A watch is left out, a laptop is folded in the corner.
But there are prostitutes for whom sex is only a pretext to theft, and others who have no intention of sleeping with their clients, Hoier said. They know how to exploit angles and mirrors to see safe codes being punched, while others, Hoier says, actually become good at identifying the tones assigned to each number on the key pads.
“While he’s in the shower,” Hoier says, “she’s taking everything.”
Drugs are slipped into drinks. Clients are escorted to ATMs for payment, only to find their cards have been stolen by someone who surreptitiously saw the pin number. Two women come to one room and run lewd tactical diversion.
But sometimes it’s just a matter of violence.
Prostitutes have pulled guns. Pimps, waiting nearby, Hoier says, have beaten people just shy of death.
All of this is easier to accomplish when the target fits a preferred profile: intoxicated and alone.

Woman guilty of murder, robbery
Prostitute agrees to testify against pimp
A 20-year-old prostitute pleaded guilty Thursday to murder and robbery in connection with the slaying of one of her frequent customers two years ago, according to District Court records.
As part of the agreement, the woman will cooperate with investigators and testify against her boyfriend and pimp and his friend in connection with the March 2008 shooting death of the woman’s 62-year-old client.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against the pimp in connection with the shooting, court records said.
The client’s body was found bound and gagged in his Cadillac Escalade on March 19 in the Southern Highlands neighborhood. He had bullet holes in his leg and his head.
The man was attracted to young black female prostitutes and had taken the woman out to dinner and to his house on several occasions, investigators said.
Authorities said that on March 16, 2008, the woman lured the man to her apartment, where her two co-conspirators were waiting to rob him.
They beat him up, bound and gagged him and left him in a closet, bleeding heavily, the woman told Las Vegas police.
She then went to the client’s east Las Vegas house and took a handgun from his safe. He had given her the safe combination, police said.
The crew carried the client to his Escalade and drove to Southern Highlands. Once there, the pimp shot the client multiple times, police said.

Man accused of trying to get prostitution refund
by JOE MACENKA
Richmond police say a man who engaged the services of a prostitute resorted to force to get his money back because he was dissatisfied.
The man was charged yesterday with grand larceny.
Officers were called to the the areas in South Richmond shortly before 2 a.m. to investigate what was originally reported as a robbery.
According to police, a woman who is a known prostitute told officers that a man had paid her for sex but complained afterward that she did not satisfy him.
The man demanded a refund, and when she refused, an argument escalated to where the man forcibly grabbed her purse to retrieve his money, police said.
The prostitute was shaken but uninjured, police said.
Because she was considered a crime victim, the prostitute was not charged

‘Prostitute man’ was followed and robbed
Detectives are probing a suspected robbery “set up” after a gang attacked a man on his driveway after watching a prostitute get into his car.
It is thought the group of robbers was watching or using prostitutes to proposition men who members then followed and tried to extort money from.
Investigating officers believe more men could have been targeted by the same group, but have not reported incidents because of how it may look to their families.
The man did not use the sex worker and asked her to get out of his car, but was then followed home and attacked by a group of robbers who were believed to have been watching the woman.

‘Net cowboys’ so angry at man who ‘robbed’ prostitute that they shame him online
By Liew Hanqing
IT IS usually a hush-hush world, where men seeking flesh hide behind the anonymity of nicknames and phone messages to pay for their illicit and illegal liaisons.
But the cover one man hid behind has been blown wide open by his fellow pleasure-seekers. They were angry that he had broken the rules of engagement.
The reason for their anger? The man had allegedly robbed a freelance prostitute he had visited.
So the netizens, these self-styled ‘net cowboys’, went to work to expose and uncover him.
The online forum, which is used by many to find illegal freelance liaisons, is now abuzz about the incident, which allegedly happened last month.
One netizen first posted a thread shortly after the incident took place, which he claimed he had heard about first-hand from the prostitute herself.
Within hours of the thread being posted, ‘net cowboys’ managed to dig up and post information about the alleged robber, a man in his 30s, who is also a member of the forum.
An excerpt from the original post read: ‘Please caution the freelancers you are helping if they come across a white Lexus RS or a Toyota Harrier…
‘I wanted to expose his full vehicle number and handphone number but I will leave it to the girl to take action against him by law (sic).’
Other ‘net cowboys’ who read the post swung into action, and managed to find the alleged robber’s forum nickname, real name, address, IC number, phone number and even details about his car.
Another netizen posted a link to the website of the company where the man works, and yet another managed to find his picture.
The forum thread on which the man’s personal information was published has since been deleted.

SAPD targets client-robbing prostitutes
By Robert Crowe
San Antonio police this week began cracking down on prostitution after receiving complaints from men who were robbed with their pants down.
At least 10 women have been arrested as part of a sting targeting thefts and robberies of men seeking sex, according to the San Antonio Police Department. In all, about 20 warrants have been filed for known prostitutes linked to thefts, authorities said.
Police also arrested at least one alleged prostitution client Friday evening on the city’s West Side, authorities said. That arrest was the first one reported as part of a promised second part of the crackdown.
“For the second phase, we will be going after johns,” SAPD spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez said earlier.
The prostitutes — while working alone or with a friend and pimp — prey upon men as they find themselves in a vulnerable position, Police Chief William McManus said.
An unknown number of prostitutes have stolen wallets and cash from men when they get to a hotel or secluded location on the pretext of paying for an illicit activity, he said.
“Once you got your pants down, there’s not a whole lot you can do,” McManus said. “It’s sounds funny, but it’s not meant to be funny.”
McManus thinks there are many more victims out there who are too embarrassed to report the crimes. Occasionally when johns do come forward, they tell officers that they have been dating the women for some time when the incidents occur, police said.
“The johns have either refused to press charges or cooperate with the investigation,” he said.

Men robbed at house of prostitution
Two men report being robbed while visiting a house of prostitution Thursday.
According to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report, both men at first reported being robbed on the street.
After investigators questioned the two men, inconsistencies with their stories were detected. Both of the men eventually said they went to visit the house of prostitution, at different times.
When the first man entered the home at about 5 p.m. Thursday, five to eight men, one armed with a handgun, confronted him.
The suspects took the man’s money, about $40, and the keys to his Chevy Blazer, before tying him with his shoelaces and placing him a back room.
The other victim went to the house at about 8:40 p.m. and also was confronted by five to eight men.
They took his money, about $700, and the keys to his Cadillac Escalade.
The man was tied up with his shoelaces and put into the back room, where there were about four or five other men, also tied up.
The victims managed to free themselves and escape, then called law enforcement. When deputies arrived at the house, they found it empty.
