Cops: Sussex County woman charged $450/hour for sex in Parsippany hotel
BY TEHANI SCHNEIDER
A Sussex County woman who used an alias to solicit sex at a local hotel allegedly offered an undercover Parsippany police officer sexual acts at a rate of $450 an hour, police said.
The 43-year-old woman was charged with promoting prostitution Wednesday following a two-week investigation into alleged activities at the hotel, police said.
Sgt. Yvonne Christiano said the woman worked under the alias ‘Gia Pilazzo’ and police had received four anonymous tips about ‘Pilazzo’ advertising services at the hotel.
“(The tips) named (Gia Pilazzo) specifically,” Christiano said.
Parsippany detectives found a Web site had been established for ‘Pilazzo’s’ clients and ‘Pilazzo’ had occupied a room at the Sierra Suites for 60 of the past 90 days, according to hotel records.
…
The Web site for ‘Gia Pilazzo’, which was still up and running on Thursday morning, was established this year.
It billed her as a female escort companion in New York and lists her physical traits and preferences for potential clients. ‘Pilazzo’, who said she will be turning 30 in February, calls herself a statuesque blond who is “Southern born, southern bred and NYC raised”, according to the site.

Guilty verdicts in MA prostitution ring trial
Federal prosecutors say two Massachusetts members of a violent prostitution ring have been found guilty of forcing teenage girls as young as 15 to work as prostitutes, taking them to several states.
The two men were convicted in U.S. District Court on Friday. Prosecutors had previously said the 26-year-olds were members of a Boston-based group that operated from 2001 to 2005 in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, New York, New Jersey, Florida and Pennsylvania.
Trafficking victims who were minors when the offenses occurred said in court that Tavares and Jones switched underage girls between themselves and viciously beat them.

Internet Fuels Virtual Subculture For Sex Trade
The Internet has spawned a virtual subculture of “johns” who share information electronically about prostitution, potentially making them harder to catch, according to a new study co-authored by a Michigan State University criminologist.
The research by MSU’s Thomas Holt and Kristie Blevins of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte challenges the common perception that sex customers act alone and do not interact for fear of reprisal or scorn. The study appears in the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography.
Holt, assistant professor of criminal justice, said today’s Web-savvy johns use the Internet to solicit prostitutes and to provide each other with warnings of prostitution hot zones and stings, which can hamper the efforts of law enforcement officials.
But the more police become familiar the johns’ Web activities, the more it can help them zero in on the perpetrators, Holt added.
“The growth of these deviant subcultures has made it more difficult for law enforcement,” said Holt, who has helped police devise prostitution stings. “On the other hand, it gives us a new opportunity to use the way the offenders communicate to better target their activities.”
The study analyzed prostitution Web forums in 10 U.S. cities with the highest rates of prostitution arrests: Atlanta; Baltimore; Chicago; Dayton, Ohio; Elizabeth, N.J.; Forth Worth, Texas; Hartford, Conn.; Inglewood, Calif.; Las Vegas; and Memphis, Tenn.
In the Web forums, the johns provide detailed information on the location of sexual services on the streets and indoors, as well as ways to identify specific providers, information on costs and personal experiences with providers.
The open nature of the forums led the johns to carefully disguise their discussions with a unique language, or argot, based largely on code and acronyms. This argot may help johns and sex workers to avoid legal sanctions and any social stigma associated with participating in the sex trade, the researchers said.

Woman who lured Robinson testifies she did not know he was an Atlantic City councilman
Kristyn Haino said she didn’t know what she had gotten herself into.
The former prostitute agreed to perform a sex act on a man who turned on his friends, she testified Tuesday. She said didn’t know that man was an Atlantic City councilman, or that his former friends would use a tape of the act to try to force him to resign.
Haino testified Tuesday at the trial of three men accused of hiring her to seduce Councilman Eugene Robinson and give him oral sex then secretly taping it. The tape was allegedly part of a failed blackmail attempt to get him to resign.
When Robinson handed her his business card after their tryst that night in November 2006, she had one thought: “Holy crap,” she said. “It was way out of my league.”
Haino was an addict supporting her daily heroin and crack habit through prostitution when she said Howard Bailey – who she knew as Shadee – introduced her to his brother, Floyd Tally.
She testified that Tally said he wanted her to perform a sex act on a friend turned “backstabber.” He would be back in a couple of days to pick her up, he said.

Reverse prostitution sweep nets 23 johns in Atlantic City
By Steven Lemongello
Police rounded up 23 alleged johns from as far away as Maine and North Carolina in a reverse prostitution sweep Saturday, Detective Sgt. Rodney Ruark said.
The men were all charged with engaging in prostitution following their arrests for allegedly soliciting undercover female police officers on Pacific Avenue, Ruark said, and all were released on summonses. The eight-hour joint operation was handled by the Special Investigation Section, Tactical Ops Unit and the Patrol Section.
The men ranged in age from 18 to 52 and included 14 men from Atlantic County, one each from Ocean County and Cape May County and three from North Carolina alone.
Two men from New York also were arrested for promoting prostitution after they approached the undercover officers and “offered their services of protection and material goods in exchange for the females to work (for) them,” as Ruark so deftly described the alleged pimping attempt.

Cops: Prostitute stole Denville client’s SUV
A 31-year-old Paterson man was charged with both vehicle theft and prostitution this week after, police say, he stole a Morris County client’s SUV after they argued over money.
According to police, a 49-year-old man of Randolph went to Denville police headquarters on Aug. 7 to report that his 2002 Mercury Mountaineer was stolen from in front of his business on Broadway between midnight and 9:30 a.m.
On Sunday, a 31-year-old Paterson man was stopped by New Jersey State Police while driving the Mountaineer and ultimately was arrested.
Investigators learned that the older man picked up the younger man on the street in Paterson and drove him back to his store in Denville after soliciting him for prostitution. As some point during the night, the pair argued over money. The younger man took the car keys, took the SUV and drove back to Paterson.

Sex Trafficking Ring Busted In N.J.
Investigators break up what they call a major sex trafficking ring that was up and running in New Jersey.
Police say thanks to ‘Operation Red Light,’ dozens of women are free from a life of sex slavery.
The New Jersey Attorney General Friday detailed the case which she calls “horrific.”
“This is a case about human trafficking which, put simply, is modern-day slavery,” said NJ Attorney General Anne Milgram. “It is a heartbreaking case in which the freedom and the dignity of many women, women between the ages of 17 and 43, was taken away.”
A 47-year-old man known as ‘Prince’ is accused of human trafficking, racketeering, laundering hundreds of thousands of dollars among other charges.
According to authorities, the women were lured to Jersey City by Brown and forced into a life of drug addiction and prostitution.
Officials say the man kept the women enslaved through various methods.
“Once they were forced into his stable of prostitutes, they were subjected to beatings, to isolation from others, into corrosion. They were locked inside apartments,” said Milgram. “A daily quota which varied woman by woman but ranged about between $500 and $1000 a day. We’ve charged that they were beaten or they were denied entry into the house or they were refused the drugs they had become addicted to.”
Authorities say Brown ran the ring for nearly two decades.
