“South Park Madame” released from jail

Sallie Saxon, the “South Park Madame,” was released Tuesday from prison after completing her two-year federal prison sentence.

The 60-year-old woman and her husband, Donald, were sentenced back in 2008 for running a high-end prostitution ring out of hotels in SouthPark and uptown Charlotte.

Saxon’s enterprise was known as “Hush Hush” and claimed to offer non-sexual companionship on its website for fees in excess of $700.

According to prosecutors, Saxon made as much as $3 million.

Clients would pay up to a thousand dollars or more for the escorts.

Tiger Woods was accused last night of spending tens of thousands of pounds on high-priced escort girls when he was away from home playing in golf tournaments.

The shamed golfer reportedly sometimes bedded two at a time, according to a notorious Hollywood madam who claimed she knew he had paid around £37,000 for call girls.

Michelle Braun told the New York Post she sent at least four escorts on pay-for-sex dates with the married father-of-two six times in 2006 and 2007.

‘He liked girl-on-girl. He had sex with them together,’ she said.

The tawdry twist comes as Tiger Woods last night admitted he was a love cheat as he announced he was taking an ‘indefinite break’ from golf.’

Belfast’s ‘dirty girls’ exposed

The Lisburn Road area of south Belfast was once notorious for being home to the city’s prostitutes, a new book has revealed.

In a chapter titled ‘Dirty Girls and Bad Houses’, Dr Leanne McCormick has written about a previously neglected part of the Belfast’s social history.

The University of Ulster lecturer spent 10 years delving into the archives to produce the book which examines female sexuality in NI from 1900 to 1960.

It will be launched on Wednesday.

Dr McCormick, who is lecturer in Modern Irish Social History at the university, has accessed new and “underused” historical records to product her book, “Regulating Sexuality – Women in Twentieth Century Northern Ireland’.

Stigma

It explores a wide range of local women’s experiences and examines the social, political and economic forces which contributed to changing attitudes towards female sexuality.

It documents the fortunes of prostitutes, specifically those who entered the Belfast Union workhouse, who the author said were either destitute or obviously struggling economically.

“The dread of having to go ‘up the Lisburn Road’ – where the workhouse was located – hung over the poor and the stigma of pauperism was something to be avoided,” the author said.

The book also looks at the spread of sexually-transmitted diseases and the anxieties generated by the behaviour of girls and young women in general, particularly with the arrival of troops during World War II.

The author said: “The politics and political violence in 20th century Northern Ireland overshadowed its social history in general and women’s history in particular.”

Former NV madam leads helps prostitutes

Sharnel Silvey rides around downtown several times a month with the Reno Police Department’s Regional Street Enforcement Team, eager to talk to the women who will get trapped in a sting operation while soliciting for prostitution.

She approaches a tall, thin woman who stands handcuffed next to an unmarked car, and lets her know she’s not a police officer. She tells her she’s there to assist her and offers her a free HIV test.

“I’m not here to tell them to stop. I am about walking the process out with them,” Silvey said. “It’s hard for a woman that’s in the industry to be able to talk to just anybody about the industry. It’s different. It’s a whole other world.”

Silvey knows and cares about women in the sex industry because she worked for 13 years at Mustang Ranch, first as the “right-hand woman” for former brothel boss Joe Conforte and later as its madam.

In 2007, she founded A Scarlet Covering, a nonprofit organization that offers recovery, counseling, education and development for current and former members of the sex industry who want a new life.

Since then, she’s visited several brothels and strip clubs in northern Nevada. When visiting a brothel, she gives a dozen roses to each working woman.

“Then, we go back to any establishment that we’ve been to during that year at Christmastime and bring baked goods and gifts for the girls,” Silvey said. “Let them know, ‘Hey, we’re still here. We still love you.’”

Last month she finalized arrangements with Washoe County Municipal Court for a specialty court for prostitution. Members of A Scarlet Covering will help assess the needs of the men, women and children who come before the court.

Berlin brothel offers ‘green discount’ to clients arriving by bike

“Everyone’s a winner,” explained Regina Götz, a former prostitute who runs the Maison d’Envie (House of Desire) brothel in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg, a district in the former East Berlin, which is a Green party stronghold.

“The environment is a topic on everyone’s lips and it’s pretty difficult to park around here. So we came up with the idea of an ‘eco discount’ of €5 (£4.60) to anyone who leaves the car at home,” Götz said.

“The crisis has slashed our turnover in half in the last year,” the 56 year-old revealed over coffee and cakes, flanked by scantily-clad prostitutes.

But the green discounts have proved a roaring success and got business back on track, she said.

Fifteen minutes in the brothel costs €25, rather than €30, for environmentally conscious punters, around 10 per cent of whom have taken up the offer.

To qualify for the discount, “clients who come by bike show their helmet or their padlock keys,” she said. “Others hand in their ticket or monthly pass if they have come on the bus.”

The brothel itself is a model of discretion – only a small brass plaque advertising “the little sexy address” betrays the true purpose of the building, housed in a block with a bike shop, a burger bar and a pub.

CSUN lecture to explore “The Life and Times of Xaviera Hollander” on Friday

Dr. Kristyan Kouri will present a lecture titled “The Life and Times of Xaviera Hollander” about famed sex columnist Xaviera Hollander on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. at the California State University, Northridge, in Sierra Hall Room 451.

Hollander, who was once a call girl and a famed New York madam in the 1970s, achieved mainstream success with the release of her bestselling book, “The Happy Hooker: My Own Story.” According to Kouri, Hollander then became known as someone who could write about sex positively and who could talk about women’s sexual pleasure.

Kouri’s lecture is part of a series of six colloquium presentations by CSUN faculty organized by Dr. C. Jacob Hale, the director of CSUN’s Center for Sex and Gender Research.

Hale said this series gives “faculty members an opportunity to present their scholarly work in progress in a supportive environment and to make more visible the expertise of CSUN faculty about sex, gender and sexuality.”

Kouri, who holds a doctorate in sociology from USC, describes the presentation as a “social psychological analysis of Hollander’s life.”

“I think that if she had had more opportunities, maybe she could have been a CEO. Her story speaks to the social constraints of society,” Kouri said.

Kouri added, “Prostitution is a Pink Collar occupation (jobs that are held primarily by women e.g. typists, secretaries). She fell into something that paid better (than her job as a secretary for the Dutch Consulate) and women are permitted to go into socially. Women are valued for their sexuality.”

She said that call girls like Hollander were usually poised, well-educated women, who moonlighted in the “high-class” profession.

“I believe that more women did than let on,” Kouri said.

Fleiss Gets Probation In Drug Case

Former “Hollywood Madam” Heidi Fleiss has been sentenced to three years probation after pleading guilty to felony drug charges in the town of Pahrump.

Fleiss pleaded guilty July 7 to unlawful use of methamphetamine and possession of the painkiller hydrocodone without a prescription.

The charges stem from a Feb. 7, 2008, arrest outside a plumbing supply store.

Fleiss, 43, moved to Nevada after serving prison time in California for running a prostitution ring.

Police: Family business was teen prostitution

A 45-year-old woman and her two children have been indicted on state and local charges of employing minors in their prostitution business.

Charges were filed against the woman, who formerly lived in Nashville, for sexual servitude and promoting prostitution. Police interviewed a 16-year-old girl who was contacted by the woman on Aug. 3 and came to a Motel 6 in Murfreesboro. The girl told police she worked as a prostitute, and the woman kept about $40 for each sex act she performed.

Prostitution Bust Shocks Upscale Neighborhood

A 20-year-old Northland woman is in trouble for allegedly running a prostitution business out of her home, and police and residents say that they are surprised that it was happening in their neighborhood.

A woman police have identified as “Nikki Devine” was arrested Wednesday morning at her $400,000 Northland home where she lived with her two children. Authorities have not released the woman’s name and picture pending formal charges.

Police allege that the woman’s upscale address served as a selling point for her online solicitations.

“The neighborhood up north probably put some people at ease to come up to see her,” said KCMO Police Sgt. Brad Dumit. “It just appears to be a traditional escort service, illegal prostitution activities going on inside the house.”

Hurst brothel madam to pay £85,000

A woman who helped manage a brothel in Hurst was ordered by a court to pay back almost £85,000 from the profits of her crime.

Barbara Harvey, 61, was arrested on January 8, 2008, at a house in Davis Way, for being concerned in the control of prostitution.

Following a money laundering investigation, her property and bank account were frozen to stop her from dispersing her assets.

Thames Valley Police’s asset recovery team carried out a financial investigation to find out how much profit she had made from managing the brothel.

The team found more than £65,000 of unexplained cash deposited in her bank accounts over the last six years.

She was charged with keeping a brothel for prostitution on March 4, last year, and she admitted the offence on May 2, 2008, at Reading Crown Court.

She was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for a year.
