Prostitutes Look to Score at All-Star Game: Cops
Dallas police say areas hosting big sports events see influx of prostitutes

North Texas is expecting thousands of visitors for the NBA All-Star Weekend, but Dallas police are also making plans to deal with some unwelcome visitors — prostitutes.

“We have been told from other cities that there is going to be an increase in prostitutes,” Lt. Christina Smith said.

A nonprofit group in Phoenix estimates that between 50,000 and 100,000 prostitutes flooded its city during Super Bowl XLII last year. Dallas police said they don’t know what to expect from the All-Star Game.

“I think it’s safe to say we will see some girls that are the traditional street prostitute, and fair to say, we can expect more of the escort-service type of girls,” Smith said.

The department is taking a page from the playbooks of other cities that have hosted high-profile sporting events, such as the NBA All-Star Game.

To prepare, the vice unit is adjusting officers’ schedules and hours so that all hands are on deck next week. Dallas police said they will focus on prostitution hotspots, such as Harry Hines Boulevard, as well as high-end hotels.

6 held for alleged SoCal prostitution ring

Police have arrested six people they claim ran a multimillion-dollar prostitution ring out of luxury apartments in Pasadena and Irvine.

A Pasadena police statement Wednesday says officers acting on an anonymous tip worked with federal immigration agents to make the arrests last month following a 2-year investigation.

Tiger Woods was accused last night of spending tens of thousands of pounds on high-priced escort girls when he was away from home playing in golf tournaments.

The shamed golfer reportedly sometimes bedded two at a time, according to a notorious Hollywood madam who claimed she knew he had paid around £37,000 for call girls.

Michelle Braun told the New York Post she sent at least four escorts on pay-for-sex dates with the married father-of-two six times in 2006 and 2007.

‘He liked girl-on-girl. He had sex with them together,’ she said.

The tawdry twist comes as Tiger Woods last night admitted he was a love cheat as he announced he was taking an ‘indefinite break’ from golf.’

British scientist says she penned call-girl blog

A British scientist says she is Belle de Jour, the anonymous blogger whose accounts of life as a call girl were turned into books and a TV series.

Brooke Magnanti was quoted by the Sunday Times as saying she decided to reveal her secret because she was afraid an ex-boyfriend would expose her.

Magnanti, 34, is a child health researcher at the University of Bristol in western England. She told the newspaper she turned to the sex trade in 2003 while finishing her Ph.D. and worked as an escort for more than a year.

She blogged about the experience in the guise of Belle de Jour, a legal secretary who moonlights as a sex worker.

The blog formed the basis of three books and the British TV series “Secret Diary of a Call Girl,” shown on Showtime in the United States.

Debate swirled about whether the anonymous author was real or fictional, and Belle de Jour was accused by some of glamorizing prostitution.

Pro Athlete’s Wife Disputes Hooker Bill

A HIGH-profile sportsman’s wife threatened $1200-an-hour prostitute and stripper Lisa Lewis with a Disputes Tribunal case to recover thousands of dollars her husband paid her.

Sunday News obtained a series of communications between Hamilton-based Lewis and the sports star’s wife – who wanted $3000 back from the former naked TV newsreader and celebrity streaker.

“I need you to repay back the money my husband gave you,” the man’s wife said in a text message sent on Tuesday evening.

“I am giving u the chance to do the decent thing first. We have 6 young children to support and we need that money repayed (sic).”

In a voice message left on Lewis’ cellphone, the wife said: “You didn’t actually provide him with any services. We can look at going to the Small Claims Court or something like that because really you need to repay it.”

Sunday News agreed not to identify the man – a controversial figure over his sporting career – after his family said the story would affect his children.

Lewis refused to comment, but sources close to the mother-of-one said the sportsman was a regular client over three months and met her for one-hour bookings at a Hamilton motor inn.

Sunday News understands Lewis denies accepting thousands of dollars without providing the man a service. “Because of (the man’s) regular visits this was verification there was no problems with the services provided, hence the continuous re-visits,” Lewis said in a text message to the wife.

I can’t say I was too impressed by Freakonomics when it first came out a couple of years ago.  It’s main gimmick is to present counter intuitive  positions while trying too hard to be clever and amusing.  The result was a one trick pony that got pretty tedious pretty quickly, for my taste.  The authors simply aren’t serious researchers, but rather shameless self promoters.  I have no doubt that they are genuine bores at cocktail parties across the fruited plain.

But the book was a success, prompting the inevitable sequel, the poorly titled SuperFreakonomics.  The authors were evidently desperately seeking new selling points, so of course they went after a sure thing, the world’s oldest profession.

What do prostitutes and a department store Santa Clauses have in common?

If sex acts were stocks, which ones would yield history’s biggest gains and losses?

And as patrons of the world’s oldest profession, have men become the unlikely beneficiaries of the feminist movement? Or are prostitutes becoming shrewd entrepreneurs in the midst of a volatile financial market?

These are just some of the provocative questions swirling through the minds of economist Steven Levitt and journalist Stephen Dubner. In their first book, “Freakonomics,” they managed to spin dense, dry data into best-selling cocktail party fodder by using crack dealers, sumo wrestlers and baby names to explain what people want and how things work under the law of unintended consequences.

Dubner and Levitt argue… that in some ways this has been very good for high-end prostitutes.

“Prostitution is one of the few — if not the only — sector of the labor force that’s dominated by women, and always has been. And that arises from the very simple fact that, you know, there are a lot of men who want to have a lot of sex more than they are able to get for free,” said Dubner.

Before World War II, if a young man wanted sex, he had two basic options: marriage or a brothel. So in the 1930s, one in five American men lost his virginity to a prostitute.

A profitable sector for hookers — until the sexual liberation movement in the 1960s changed the business of intimacy, and a generation of “free love” altered the marketplace forever. The modesty traditionally displayed by women in search of Mr. Right evolved to a bold pursuit of Mr. Right Now. And an era of casual sex — prostitution’s direct rival — was conceived.

“The reason the relative price has fallen so much is because there is competition from women who will have sex for free,” said Dubner.

Business of Being a High-End Prostitute

A boon for men but only temporarily. For as social morales shifted and new trends of sexual tastes emerged, so too did the taboos. Prostitutes quickly recognized the business opportunities in braving this new world.

“In simple economics — the kinds of acts that prostitutes do today, it’s not conventional sex. I mean, it is the kinds of things you can’t get from your girlfriend. So the most depraved things are, you know, are recorded in their day than you could, that you could ever imagine,” said Dubner.

Morals may have changed, but only to a point. Prostitution is still illegal in most of America, but the law of the land is less powerful than the law of supply and demand.

And there is perhaps no student more attentive to this fact, and glad for it, than a call girl named “Allie” who asked to be included in Dubner and Levitt’s research.

“She is a very bright woman. She understands the economics pretty well,” said Dubner. “She said, ‘Thank God prostitution is illegal,’ ’cause if it weren’t, I wouldn’t be making $500 an hour; I’d be offered maybe $100 an hour, and I wouldn’t be a prostitute. I would probably be back doing what I was doing — which was working as a computer technician for a Fortune 50 company.’”

Forest Hills woman charged with prostitution in White Plains raid

A Forest Hills woman was arrested last week in an ongoing investigation into a White Plains-based prostitution ring.

The 29-year-old woman was charged with prostitution by Westchester County law enforcement officials last Thursday.

Also arrested were the group’s alleged ringleaders, both of White Plains.

Prosecutors alleged that the duo operated an upscale prostitution business from their homes in White Plains.

The group allegedly recruited, managed and scheduled nearly three dozen women — sending them on calls to various Westchester County hotels. Rates of $600 to $2,000 were charged to the ring’s clients, according to prosecutors.
The White Plains ring advertised its services in various media, including a website which used explicit imagery and language to entice potential clients.

“Our ladies aim to please, ensuring impeccable service with the utmost discretion, while endeavoring to meet and exceed the expectations of our first-class clientele,” the website read. “Our companions look forward to satisfying you. We are committed to providing an excellent and most enjoyable time that will promote the development of long-term relationships and the full GFE (girl friend experience). Tell us what you desire!”

High end prostitution ring busted

A high end prostitution operation that recruited, managed and scheduled nearly three dozen women sending them on calls to many Westchester County hotels, has been broken.

Arrested were a male-woman duo of White Plains. They were each charged with promoting prostitution in the third degree, a felony. They were both remanded on $100,000 cash or bond.

Police investigated the enterprise that operated both out-call and in-call prostitution services. The rates ranged from $600 to $2,000 with multiple hours available. The proceeds were then split.

Sophie Anderton: I was a £15k prostitute

Recalling the first time she was paid for sex, she said: “It was all over in two minutes. I lay there thinking, ‘Is that it? For £15k, is that it?’” Sophie, 32, said: “For a short while I sold my body for a lot of money. I’m not proud of it.”

At the time she was drinking a bottle of vodka every night and using cocaine every day.

She said she turned to prostitution after an introduction from a pal when her money ran out and she needed to pay her dealer.

But she decided to quit after a bad experience with a fat businessman who made her feel “sick”.

She said: “I had slept with five men and made more than £50,000, which paid my drug debts and a deposit on a flat. Now I could escape.”
