Pro Athlete’s Wife Disputes Hooker Bill
By JONATHAN MARSHALL

double-lA HIGH-profile sportsman’s wife threatened $1200-an-hour prostitute and stripper Lisa Lewis with a Disputes Tribunal case to recover thousands of dollars her husband paid her.

Sunday News obtained a series of communications between Hamilton-based Lewis and the sports star’s wife – who wanted $3000 back from the former naked TV newsreader and celebrity streaker.

“I need you to repay back the money my husband gave you,” the man’s wife said in a text message sent on Tuesday evening.

“I am giving u the chance to do the decent thing first. We have 6 young children to support and we need that money repayed (sic).”

In a voice message left on Lewis’ cellphone, the wife said: “You didn’t actually provide him with any services. We can look at going to the Small Claims Court or something like that because really you need to repay it.”

Sunday News agreed not to identify the man – a controversial figure over his sporting career – after his family said the story would affect his children.

Lewis refused to comment, but sources close to the mother-of-one said the sportsman was a regular client over three months and met her for one-hour bookings at a Hamilton motor inn.

Sunday News understands Lewis denies accepting thousands of dollars without providing the man a service. “Because of (the man’s) regular visits this was verification there was no problems with the services provided, hence the continuous re-visits,” Lewis said in a text message to the wife.

Hateful attack has women terrified

One woman is too afraid to go back on the street.

Another is so upset, she can’t even talk about it.

Yet another shows up at police headquarters and hands over her handwritten list of bad tricks to the homicide unit. Nine pages of licence plate numbers with notations such as “he’s weird” or “he hurts me.”

What happened in a dark parking lot on Mulberry Street early Saturday — somewhere between the blue trash bin and the stairwell where tricks are turned — was not just between a guy with a knife and a sex worker.

It was between him and all women.

Each time the predator plunged the blade into her body — not 10, not 20, but somewhere near 30 times — he was bringing this horror closer to every woman.

Let’s get this clear. This is not about sex. Not about prostitution. This is about hatred.

And the women who are closest to the streets of Hamilton are feeling that.

It is what they talk of outside the Wesley Centre. Some know the stabbing victim. Everyone knows of her. They discuss the vicious details of the attack.

“I don’t care who you are or what you do for a living, nobody deserves that,” says Mary Bristol, whose own arms are covered with what she says are knife scars. “It makes me feel scared. I wouldn’t walk down the streets by myself.

“This guy must be awful friggin’ sick to do this.”

An unlikely relationship has grown between police and the vulnerable women who work on our streets. It has been born of necessity.

It began in 2002 when a task force called Project Advocate began to look at a series of attacks and disappearances involving sex workers. Charges were laid in some of those cases.

Police are going back to that databank to determine if there are any links to this new attack, says Staff Sergeant Steve Hrab, who led Project Advocate and now heads up this new investigation.
