Day-care operator faces prostitution charge
Woman, two others used Internet, north-side hotels, police say

Officials of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services on Friday initiated action to shutter a Naperville day-care home operated by a woman now facing trial for prostitution.
“We are in the process of shutting down this day-care home,” DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe said of the ABC & TLC Home Daycare business at 61 Bunting Lane in central Naperville.
The home’s operator has a state license that is in effect through Sept. 22, 2012, but “she will not be allowed to operate (the business) while the criminal case is pending,” Marlowe said.
“A conviction for prostitution would serve as a bar to holding a day-care license,” Marlowe said. Should the woman be found guilty of that charge, it would be “impossible for her to get a license,” he said.
Marlowe added the home will be formally closed early next week. It does not operate on weekends.
The 42-year-old woman and two other women were arrested Thursday at hotels on Naperville’s north side as part of an ongoing anti-vice effort by Naperville police.
Marlowe said that since July 5, 2006, the woman has had a state license to operate a day-care home, which differs from a day-care center based on the number of children for which each business provides care. The business “is licensed to care for a maximum of seven children,” Marlowe said.
…
Reached at her home Friday morning, the woman declined to discuss the arrests. A handwritten sign on her front door read, “Daycare is closed. Family emergency,” and provided the telephone number of an employee. The woman reached at that phone number said she had no information about the incident.
Police Cmdr, Mike Anders said Friday investigators “have not been at (Thoren’s) house at all as part of this investigation. We have nothing to indicate any children were placed in any harm.”
In a prepared statement, police Sgt. John McAnally related Thursday how members of the department’s Special Operations Group “conducted an investigation into subjects engaging in acts of prostitution through various Internet sites at hotels and motels on Naperville’s far north side.” Police have conducted similar investigations in recent months that have ended in other arrests.
The women “posted various services on the Internet and agreed to meet their customers at various hotels and perform sexual acts in exchange for money.” They were met in the hotels by police officers working undercover, he said.
The statement did not identify the hotels where the women were arrested. McAnally in the past has declined to name them because their owners and employees have cooperated in the police investigations.

Chappaqua resident, 46, charged with prostitution, kept client book
by Marcela Rojas
A longtime Chappaqua resident, who was arrested by an undercover detective for allegedly offering “sensual massage” to “generous gentleman” on Craigslist, stated she charged $200 an hour for sex and kept a book of her male clients, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
The D.A.s Office submitted paperwork to New Castle Town Court saying that the woman made a statement on Feb. 19 to a criminal investigator, admitting she began posting ads on Craigslist that “were sexual in nature” after advertising on the site for about a year. The 46-year-old woman posted a photo of herself and requested photos of the men she meets whom she charged $200 an hour for various sex acts as well as “top rate” massages, according to the statement.
The woman, a registered nurse, stated she worked for herself and kept a book of her clients’ first names and telephone numbers near her computer and that she “met men at her house and at hotels occasionally.”

New Castle police, who cover Chappaqua, say a 46-year-old woman focused on “upscale men” in ads on Craigslist. Court papers say she offered “sensuous massage” to “generous gentlemen.”

Alleged Escort Service Busted
By Rozanna M. Martinez
Detectives responded to an online ad for “Rocky Mountain’s Sexiest Redhead” that included explicit photos of a woman calling herself Tina. An undercover detective called the listed phone number and a meeting was arranged at a hotel room, according to a criminal complaint.
When the undercover detective arrived he and a woman negotiated a deal for sex at a rate of $200. Arresting officers entered the room when the money was exchanged, according to the complaint.
Police found prescription pills in a bottle inside the bathroom. The woman told police that she had found the narcotics and was unsure what they were, according to the complaint.
A short time later, another man came to the room to check on the woman. He told police that he was aware she would give men massages and have sex with them, according to a criminal complaint filed.
The man said he placed ads for the woman and another woman on the Internet.

Boston cops follow prostitution trail via Craigslist ad
By O’Ryan Johnson
Another prostitute allegedly peddling her services on Craigslist and working out of a Boston hotel was busted by police in an online sting, authorities said.
The arrest Tuesday of the 25-year-old woman comes just two weeks after cops locked up another woman in an identical sting at the Westin Copley Place.
The woman – also wanted for defaulting on two prostitution warrants out of Chelsea and Dorchester – was arraigned yesterday on a prostitution charge in Boston Municipal Court. She pleaded not guilty.
A Boston detective posing as a john called a number listed on her advertisement, police said. She allegedly told the undercover cop to call her from the lobby of the hotel – which authorities declined to identify. Once he reached her hotel room, the cop handed her $200 and she began to undress, police said. At that point, cops knocked on the door, and she was arrested.
Cops seized four cell phones, a copy of her ad, and her room rental agreement.
Police are hoping to discourage prostitutes from advertising on Craigslist and other electronic billboards in the wake of the murder last year of Julissa Brisman.

Hookers are giving up street-walking for web surfing
Police say the world’s oldest profession has gone high-tech. More prostitutes are leaving the street corner and turning to the web.
“What we are seeing is just outright advertisements for sexual services,” Deputy Chief Jaime Ayala of the Arlington, TX, Police Department said.
On one website well-known for its “adult services” advertisements, one out of every five ads in Dallas-Fort Worth originates in Arlington.
“We have received a number of complaints about what appears to be obvious postings of what appears to be prostitution,” Ayala said.
The Arlington Police Department is now launching operation “You Never Know” to fight online solicitation.
Undercover officers will be surfing the web, posing as prostitutes and johns.
“If you respond to an ad or place one, you never know who might be on the other end of the line,” Ayala said.

4 women arrested during Columbus Craig’s List prostitution bust
One suspect is 15, leading to child molestation charges against 3 women
By ALAN RIQUELMY
The undercover Columbus police officer was looking for an “adult service.”
That led him Saturday to women who police say used the Web site Craig’s List to prostitute themselves and a 15-year-old runaway.
One of the women answered the phone when the undercover officer called, and she told him to go to room No. 222 at a Days Inn, reports state. He arrived around 2:20 p.m., and she then offered 20-year-old woman, police said.
The three agreed on $200 for sex, and that’s when the officer took the two women and a third woman, as well as a a suspect later identified as a 15-year-old into custody, reports show.
Police said suspected Ecstasy pills were on top of a night stand between two beds and that $16 worth of what appeared to be marijuana was found inside the night stand’s top drawer.
Officers booked the four suspects into the Muscogee County Jail. Around 9 p.m., jail personnel contacted police about one of the suspects giving a false name. A woman first believed to be 21 was actually a 15-year-old runaway who had been with the suspects since December, police said.
Explicit pictures of the teen appeared on an escort Web site, reports say.
Police then charged the three adult suspects with additional counts.

Online Prostitution Sting Leads to Five Arrests
The Corpus Christi Police Department went undercover on craigslist this weekend and arrested five men who they say were trying to solicit a prostitute.
Police say they posted ads on Craigslist trying to attract people looking to hire a prostitute. They say it was just part of routine checks they do on networking websites but this is the first time they have actually posted an ad online; and they were able to make five arrests.
…
Police say the men all met up with an undercover female police officer Saturday afternoon and verbally agreed to pay for a sex act.
The vice division says the internet isn’t as big of a problem as prostitution on the streets but it’s still a good tool for their ongoing crack down.
“It doesn’t seem to be the biggest source, I mean most of it is street level prostitution but randomly going through craigslist and other websites that do these kind of networking sites and stuff you can see that its there,” Captain John Houston with the Narcotics/Vice Investigation Division.
