Coast madam blasts $2000 fine for illegal brothel

A Chinese man linked to an illegal Asian sex ring busted on the Sunshine Coast claimed in court yesterday that he was simply an administrator who took a 40% cut.

The 30-year-old man claimed he met the three women, who were also charged with engaging in illegal prostitution following raids last month, while he was working as a receptionist at a brothel in Sydney.

Defence solicitor Chelsea Emery told Maroochydore Magistrates Court that the group had formed a small business enterprise and the man, who had “a good grasp of English”, had organised the accommodation, advertisements and the mobile phone contracts to enable clients to book appointments.

Police prosecutor Rick Pallister said advertisements in the paper offered “massage sex and oral, 18 year old, busty hot, never regret” and “full service in half an hour for $100”.

He said the man was netted after a police officer, posing as a potential client called one of the numbers listed in the paper.

Ms Emery said her client “was contacted by these ladies and other persons to start a business on the Sunshine Coast”.

“All the women were experienced in the industry,” she said.

“He encouraged safe sex and placed no pressure on these women.

“They were free to leave whenever they wanted and to take days off if they wanted.

“They were comforted by the fact there was a man involved and they had some sort of security.”
