Jobs call on prostitution plans
Councils should look at providing work for former prostitutes, says a committee looking at the issue in Ipswich after the murder of five women.
Steve Wright was jailed for life in February this year for murdering the women in December 2006.
A committee made up of council and police authority members, says there are limited employment opportunities for former sex workers.
It says local councils could do more to provide jobs and work experience.
‘Virtually eliminated’
The report welcomed the measures implemented as part of a prostitution strategy for the town which was spearheaded by a team from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and which has seen on-street prostitution in Ipswich “virtually eliminated”.
