Sex sting nets 15 arrests

A prostitution sting over the weekend resulted in 15 arrests on Saturday and Sunday by the Laredo Police Department.

Working throughout the night Friday and into Saturday, more than 10 officers from the narcotics unit worked undercover and arrested 14 women and 1 man on the charge of soliciting money for sex.

“We do these types of stings sporadically to try and keep up with these individuals,” said Investigator Jose E. Baeza, LPD spokesman.

“We don’t want it to become too prevalent.”

Most of the individuals were arrested in the San Bernardo area.

“The city is trying to rejuvenate the San Bernardo area as a tourist attraction, and it’s important we prevent it from becoming a place for prostitution,” Baeza said.

On Friday, five female subjects and one male subject were arrested, and on Saturday, nine female subjects were arrested and taken to the Webb County Jail.
