Warnings of discount prostitution trend
A brothel offering unlimited sexual experiences at a discount price is the tip of the iceberg, warns an anti-trafficking organisation
An organisation that helps women caught up in prostitution has warned of a worrying trend of free-for-all offers at Danish brothels.
The warning from the organisation, Reden, came on the heels of a raid on a suburban Copenhagen brothel, where five Eastern European women were forced to service customers for as long as the men wanted for 900 kroner.
‘The women had no say as to how many services they provided, how many men they serviced or how long they had to perform. They had to be at someone’s disposal for as long as they were needed,’ said Reden’s Dorit Otzen to public broadcaster DR.
Reden was alerted to the plight of the women by an outraged customer who had issues – not with the free-for-all offer, but by the fact the women were being paid a paltry 3,000 kroner per month.
Otzen said the brothels’ special discount offers have been common for a number of years in Germany, where prostitution is legal. The trend is now appearing in Denmark.
