Delray Beach mayoral candidate pleaded no contest to soliciting prostitute in 1997

Mayoral candidate Charles G. “Chuck” Halberg said today that he was arrested and pleaded no contest to a charge of soliciting a prostitute in 1997.

Halberg, who is facing off against Vice Mayor Woodie McDuffie in March for the city’s top elected spot, told The Palm Beach Post that his opponent’s camp know about the arrest. He said he had planned to reveal the incident after he collected enough signatures for his nominating petition.

“I have nothing to hide,” Halberg said.

A June 6, 1997, court filing shows that Halberg pleaded no contest to the charge. The arrest came as part of a police sting in Boynton Beach.

Halberg, 51, would not discuss the details of the incident. He said he served no jail time, but paid a small fine. Records show no other criminal history.
