Boynton Beach prostitution sting
Reported by: Danielle Dubetz
They call IT the “Federal Highway Corridor.” In Boynton Beach, it’s known as a popular place for prostitution.
Police say many of them run their businesses from various hotels along the strip but usually, all they have to do to find them is take a drive.
“Recently we’ve noticed there are a lot more out there and different people that we’ve never seen before,” said Sgt. Joe DeGiulio.
Susan Haught is one of those rounded up in the sting.
“More often than not they have some type of addiction,” DeGiulio said.
An undercover officer makes the deals, others stay close by to make the arrests.
“It’s blatant. They’re going to basically say, this is the sexual act and this is what I want for it,” he said.
Police say Haught is a repeat offender. The story she told police once she was cuffed….She said, “I’ve known him for 8 months, his name is John.”
Prostitution is a misdemeanor offence but police say sometimes the knowledge of the women on the street can lead them to other criminals.
“[The thing with] Streetwalkers is that [they have] a wealth of knowledge. Building a good [rapport] with them is key to get a lot of information because they know everything that goes on,” said DeGiulio.
Police say sometimes these arrests helps them gather information against drug dealers and other criminals but are quick to add, the women don’t receive any special treatment.
