APD: Craigslist prostitution still a problem
Albuquerque vice cops are still busting prostitutes advertising their services on Craigslist.
Four months ago, the popular classifieds site announced it was taking measures to stop postings for prostitution, but one APD vice detective says it is still easy to spot ads selling sex.
The undercover detective said there are many postings on the site.
“Friday and Saturday, if you look on Craigslist adult services, there’s as many as 50, if you look on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday there may be five,” they said.
Craigslist got rid of its “erotic services” category in May, replacing it with a new “adult services” section.
The vice detective says Craigslist’s changes have cut down on the number of prostitution postings in Albuquerque, but the poster’s profession sure hasn’t changed.
“Ninety-nine-point-nine percent of the girls on the adult services are prostitutes,” the detective said.
Responding to a Craigslist ad last year, undercover officers showed up at the Hi-Way House Motel. That’s where they say Brigette Dooley offered sex for money, and told them Alex Galvin was her pimp.
Craigslist says its employees now review all postings before they hit the Web.
