Chappaqua resident, 46, charged with prostitution, kept client book
by Marcela Rojas
A longtime Chappaqua resident, who was arrested by an undercover detective for allegedly offering “sensual massage” to “generous gentleman” on Craigslist, stated she charged $200 an hour for sex and kept a book of her male clients, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
The D.A.s Office submitted paperwork to New Castle Town Court saying that the woman made a statement on Feb. 19 to a criminal investigator, admitting she began posting ads on Craigslist that “were sexual in nature” after advertising on the site for about a year. The 46-year-old woman posted a photo of herself and requested photos of the men she meets whom she charged $200 an hour for various sex acts as well as “top rate” massages, according to the statement.
The woman, a registered nurse, stated she worked for herself and kept a book of her clients’ first names and telephone numbers near her computer and that she “met men at her house and at hotels occasionally.”

Man’s killers ‘used prostitution lure’
By Victoria Allen
A BUSINESSMAN was murdered after he visited a known red-light district and left there with a female companion, a court heard yesterday.
Alan Bennett, 56, was on a night out with work colleagues before he headed to the streets of Aberdeen’s harbour, an area that is frequented by prostitutes.
Almost three hours later, a reveller in a different part of the city centre found Mr Bennett’s body. He had been stabbed to death.
Paul Balgowan and Julie Carroll, both 25, are accused of luring him to his death by promising him sex.
On the first day of their trial at the High Court in Aberdeen the jury was shown CCTV footage of Mr Bennett at Regent Quay on the night he died.
Detective Constable Andrew Barclay of Grampian Police told the court: “Regent Quay is known as a red-light district. Further along is a former Grampian Police tolerance zone for prostitution, and prostitutes meet in that area.”
The footage showed Mr Bennett heading to the harbour at at about 1:35am on 30 May last year and leaving with a woman thought to be Carroll.
Following just 30 seconds behind them were two figures, one of which was said to be Carroll’s partner, Balgowan. It is not clear if Mr Bennett knew he was being followed, but DC Barclay said Carroll kept looking back over her shoulder.
The pair are accused of persuading the victim to go with Carroll, then pulling a knife on him.
It is claimed he was forced to hand over his wallet and then repeatedly punched and stabbed in the head and body.
Both deny the charges.

Police: Prostitute Was Taping Clients in Her Apartment
An undercover prostitution sting on the Northwest Side this week led to the discovery of an elaborate video recording system used to videotape transactions and sex acts between the suspect and her clients, according to police.
A 53-year-old woman was arrested Monday in her apartment in an unincorporated area near O’Hare Airport after Cook County Sheriff’s police investigated an ad on an Internet site, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
She was charged with prostitution, according to a sheriff’s office spokesman.
The ad promised a “superb authentic oriental rub” by a 28-year-old “beautiful, highly trained and skilled young lady” who “is there to please.” For $180, customers were promised an “all inclusive” “tissue rub” and “a totally relaxing experience” in a “beautiful home, in a relaxing oriental setting,” the release said.
An undercover sheriff’s officer responded to the ad Monday afternoon and once inside, the woman allegedly offered sex for cash, the release said. She briefly left the bedroom for another room, where she had set up a video monitor connected to a camera hidden in the hallway outside her apartment door.
On the monitor, she saw officers outside her door and though she was naked, she nervously returned to the bedroom and tried engaging in conversation with the undercover officer, who placed her under arrest.
Investigation revealed a hidden camera in the public hallway and more cameras in the bedroom, including a pin-sized camera set an Oriental wall fan. Jamming equipment had also been set up to block cell phone or text message transmissions from the apartment, the release said.
All cameras all fed into a kitchen monitor for viewing, and were recording on a system set up in another bedroom. Years’ worth of tapes were found, all showing male customers exchanging cash for sex, the release said. About 30 hours worth of tapes have so far been confiscated, and more tapes had been erased.
Officers are reviewing the tapes for evidence and examining a computer found in the woman’s home. It is illegal in Illinois to videotape a person without their consent or to transmit live video of a person without their consent, the release said.
Police are also trying to determine whether any of the tapes were used to further other criminal activity against the customers.

Online prostitution forum leads to arrests of 57 people
By The Associated Press
Madison police say they’ve cracked down on the sex trade by infiltrating an online forum popular among customers of prostitutes.
The Wisconsin State Journal reported that officers have arrested 57 people following eight months of monitoring the Web site.
Police Officer Jeff Pharo said he stumbled across the site while investigating a separate tip. He said the site offered updates of which prostitutes were walking the sidewalk, updates that he confirmed by driving by.
So he created a fake profile to establish himself, then began studying the comments of other people in the forum. The information led to dozens of arrests and citations.

Fighting prostitution one john at a time
By Peter Hermann
Bill Lehman watches the cars go by.
A red pickup truck heads south on Second Street, disappears, then returns heading north on Second Street.
“That red truck will be back,” Lehman says.
Sure enough, the same red truck passes Lehman seven times in 20 minutes on the same residential block in South Baltimore’s Brooklyn neighborhood.
Lehman calls out the plate number as Jessica Mazan jots it down in her log and Jessica’s mother, Nancy Mazan, grabs her binoculars to confirm the sighting.
This is how these homeowners spend their nights, standing in the cold, the heat, the rain, the snow, watching the cars go by. When they’re sure the driver is not lost but is, in fact, circling the block looking for a prostitute, they send the information to the Baltimore Police Department.
A sergeant reviews it, makes sure the plate matches the car’s description and fires off a letter informing the registered owner that the vehicle was seen in an area known for prostitution and that its driver was involved in suspicious behavior.
“It’s not to accuse them of a crime, but to let them know the community is watching,” said the Southern District police commander, Maj. Scott L. Bloodsworth.
The missive is called a “Dear John” letter, and since police revived this long-defunct program in May, the cops have sent out 75 such letters, about 50 to people who live in Brooklyn who apparently use their backyards and neighbors’ streets for sex. Several residents keep track of the cars, but Lehman, a 50-year-old city fire lieutenant, is by far the most prolific.
This is one weapon the city is using to drive hookers and the men who solicit them from what should be quiet city streets – not just in Brooklyn but along Wilkens Avenue in Curtis Bay and Washington Boulevard in Pigtown, where frustrated homeowners have gone a step further by videotaping pick-ups and posting pictures on the Internet.
The letters on official police letterhead shame the men, Lehman said, “especially if the wife gets the letter, or the boss gets the letter. I used to feel sorry for them but they are coming here and destroying my neighborhood.” He said men slow down constantly, mistaking female neighbors heading off to work as working girls, sometimes as early as 5 on a weekday morning.

Promise of Sex Leads To Northaven Murder
by Bridget Lovelle
Sheriff’s deputies say a meeting with a prostitute led to the November 19, 2009 robbery and murder of a man in Northaven.
A nineteen year-old man and a 17 year-old girl were arrested by Sheriff’s detectives just before 5:00 p.m. Tuesday night, November 23, 2009.
Detectives say sometime around 7:30 p.m. on November 19, 2009, a 48 year-old Memphis man was found shot to death in the front seat of his car.
Detectives say the arrested man planned to lure Collins to the neighborhood to have sex with the teenage girl. After the deceased met the girl at an abandoned home in the neighborhood, the suspect robbed the man and shot him inside his Buick Skylark, and he died there.

Woman guilty of murder, robbery
Prostitute agrees to testify against pimp
A 20-year-old prostitute pleaded guilty Thursday to murder and robbery in connection with the slaying of one of her frequent customers two years ago, according to District Court records.
As part of the agreement, the woman will cooperate with investigators and testify against her boyfriend and pimp and his friend in connection with the March 2008 shooting death of the woman’s 62-year-old client.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against the pimp in connection with the shooting, court records said.
The client’s body was found bound and gagged in his Cadillac Escalade on March 19 in the Southern Highlands neighborhood. He had bullet holes in his leg and his head.
The man was attracted to young black female prostitutes and had taken the woman out to dinner and to his house on several occasions, investigators said.
Authorities said that on March 16, 2008, the woman lured the man to her apartment, where her two co-conspirators were waiting to rob him.
They beat him up, bound and gagged him and left him in a closet, bleeding heavily, the woman told Las Vegas police.
She then went to the client’s east Las Vegas house and took a handgun from his safe. He had given her the safe combination, police said.
The crew carried the client to his Escalade and drove to Southern Highlands. Once there, the pimp shot the client multiple times, police said.

Judge tosses lawyer’s suit against credit card company
By SHANNON P. DUFFY
A blind lawyer from Broomall, who claims a prostitute racked up more than $14,000 in fake charges on his Discover credit card, has vowed to appeal now that a federal judge has tossed out his lawsuit.
U.S. District Judge Edmund V. Ludwig ruled that because the hiring of a prostitute is an illegal act in Pennsylvania, the lawyer’s decision to pay the prostitute with his credit card had effectively voided the credit-card agreement.
In the suit, the attorney testified that he hired the prostitute nearly two dozen times in 2007 and that she told him her fee was $275.
But the attorney claims he later realized the woman had been systematically robbing him by tricking him into signing credit slips with charges as high as $1,600.
When the attorney disputed the charges, he claims Discover Card refused to help and flatly rejected his complaint that the company was failing to do enough to protect its blind customers from fraud.
The attorney filed suit against Discover, claiming breach of contract and violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. He also named the woman and her company as defendants.
The woman denied under oath that she is a prostitute. In court papers, her lawyer, William C. Reil, said the woman is a fitness instructor and that Peoples was her “student.”

Burglars strike home while owner out with prostitute
By Scot Allyn
A 78-year-old man’s home was burglarized Friday night while he cavorted with a prostitute, according to an Elyria Police report.
Police were sent to the home at 7:11 p.m. Friday in regard to a burglary in progress. At the home, police saw a man standing behind the back door, according to the report. Another man was standing on the back porch and a third man was found in a parked car nearby, waiting to drive the alleged thieves away, the report said.
After a foot chase, the men were arrested. Several items looted from the home, including jewelry, watches, coins and 10 guns, were recovered and returned to the victim.
The 78-year-old man returned home while officers were arresting the thieves, and explained a prostitute known as Kelly had performed a sexual act on him at his home earlier, the report said. Afterward she asked him to drive her to Lorain County Community College because her mother worked there, according to the report.
When the men were arrested, one of them volunteered he “had broken into the house because the girl, Kelly, had known the old man and arranged the whole thing,” the report said.

Oklahoma City police accuse father, son of tying up and beating prostitute
By Michael Kimball
Police arrested an Oklahoma City man and his son last week after an officer said he walked into the father’s bedroom and found the son trying to smother a bloodied and partially tied-up prostitute.
The two men remained at the Oklahoma County jail today in lieu of $55,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said. Police arrested them Thursday at their apartment on complaints of kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim, who police identified only as a woman born in 1972, said she met two men the previous morning when they offered her a ride and a beer, according to a police report released today. She told police the elder man offered her $25 for a “date,” but she told them she would only do it for $60 or $80 and left when they started calling her names.
The victim said the younger man saw her the next day, and she again agreed to go with him in his car when he offered her beer, the report states. She told officers she was attacked when she got to the apartment.
